3 Lodging and places to stay in Kooskia, Idaho
Kooskia (pronounced Koos-kee), is nestled amid protective hills at the confluence of the South Fork and Middle Fork of the Clearwater River. The major industries in the area are lumber production, farming, tourism, and cattle raising.
Kooskia was named after what is now the Clearwater River. The Nez Perce called it Koos-Koos-Kia, which referred to it's transparent quality. Kooskia is along the Northwest Passage Scenic Byway. The town site, originally known as Stuart, was surveyed in 1897. Kooskia and the surrounding area offer many activities and the refurbished 1912 Victorian Opera Theatre in the center of town is not to be missed. A spectacular crystal chandelier along with the dessert and sarsaparilla bar, make it a lovely setting for year round concerts and melodramas.
