Pierce is located about 31 miles east of Orofino in the North Central region of Idaho.
At one time Pierce was thought to be Idaho's oldest town. As it turns out it is just one of the oldest. In 1860 gold was discovered in Pierce and the rush began. At that time Pierce was actually located in what was then the Washington Territory. In 1861, Pierce became the county seat of Shoshone County and in 1862 the county built a courthouse which was Idaho's first government building. The Idaho Territory was established in 1863 and the Pierce remained the Shoshone County Seat until 1885 when the county seat was moved to Murray.
The recreational opportunities are endless in the area surrounding Pierce. From hunting and fishing, hiking, mountain biking, photography, ATV riding, snowmobiling, skiing at Bald Mountain Ski Resort, cross country skiing and snowshoeing, the Pierce area offers it all.
