The eastern side of Lake Pend Oreille includes the town of Hope. Some of the landmarks that are located on the east side of the lake include Owen Bay, Kilroy Bay, Pack River and the Clark Fork River.

On the northern side of Lake Pend Oreille are the towns of Sandpoint and Ponderay. Kootenai Bay, Oden Bay, Sand Creek and the Pack River are all landmarks that are found on the north side of the lake. The Westwood Development is also located on the north side of Lake Pend Oreille.

The western side of Lake Pend Oreille is marked by the Pend Oreille River. Sagle, Bottle Bay, Garfield Bay, Maiden Rock, Evans Landing, Bayview Peninsula and Scenic Bay are all landmarks that are found on the west side of the lake.

There are some vacation rentals that are not located directly on Lake Pend Oreille but have access to shared private beaches and docks through various homeowners associations or are located on a creek or river that would provide easy access to Lake Pend Oreille. The amenities offered vary by association but in general they normally include shared docks and beaches that only members, or their renters, can access.

Located on the northern shore of Lake Pend Oreille and approximately five miles east of downtown Sandpoint, is the beautiful waterfront community of Kaniksu Shore Estates. Lake access, a nice sandy beach area with a firepit and barbecue pit, a day use dock area and boat ramp are all amenities offered at Kaniksu Shore Estates.

The Westwood Development is located to the west of downtown Sandpoint. This development sits on the northwestern area of Lake Pend Oreille and offers lake access to homeowners and registered guests. Tennis courts, an outdoor seasonal pool, private marina and a nice sandy beach are all amenities that the Westwood Development offers.

The Dover Bay development is located to the west of downtown Ketchum. This development is located in Dover and offers lake access to homeowners and registered guests along with a common area with playground equipment, 9 acres of parks and beaches and 9 miles of trails. The proposed development will include a marina, dining options and convenience store.

Mirror Lake is located south of Sandpoint in Sagle and near Lake Pend Oreille. In this category all vacation properties, condominium complexes and hotels are located directly on the lake and most have access to a private or shared beach and dock.

The southern side of Lake Pend Oreille is marked by the town of Bayview and Farragut State Park.

Schweitzer Mountain Resort is located eleven miles north of Sandpoint. The village area at Schweitzer Resort offers shopping, dining, lodging, hot tubs, a pool and a variety of activities. All lodging properties and vacation rentals in this category are located at Schweitzer Mountain and most are either ski in/ski out or within easy walking distance of the ski lifts. Some properties that are slopeside may require a short drive for lift access.

The downtown area of Sandpoint is located on and near the northwest side of Lake Pend Oreille. Many wonderful and unique shopping experiences are available, along with a variety of dining and entertainment. In the heart of downtown you can enjoy lakeside dining, the public beach, shopping, the Panida Theater, one of the approximately forty trains that pass through the area everyday and various other wonderful activities. All vacation rentals, along with hotels, in this category are located within approximately a half of a mile radius of the intersection of First Avenue and Church Street, our best guess for the heart of downtown Sandpoint.

Located south of Sandpoint, across the long bridge, the Sagle area sits on Lake Pend Oreille and is bordered by the Pend Oreille River and Fry Creek. In the Sagle area there are a few dining options and not much in the way of shopping. Sandpoint, however, is only 3 miles away and offers a wide variety of dining and shopping opportunities.

Ponderay lies approximately 2.5 miles northeast of Sandpoint across Sand Creek. Ponderay is also located on Lake Pend Oreille. The Ponderay area includes the Bonner Mall and a variety of restaurants. Ponderay is located about 10 miles southeast of Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort.

Across Lake Pend Oreille from Sandpoint lies the town of Hope. Hope is about 15-20 minutes or approximately 17 miles from downtown Sandpoint via Highway 200. Hope offers a few dining options and a convenience store, along with a marina.

The town of Dover is a bedroom community of Sandpoint, located just three miles west of town. Southern exposure, nice beaches and good fishing are all attributes of the Dover area. There are not dining or grocery options in Dover, however Sandpoint is only three miles away and offers several dining options and a variety of stores.

Located approximately 26 miles south of Sandpoint, on the southern side of Lake Pend Oreille, Bayview is a small town with lots of recreational opportunities. Farragut State Park is located in Bayview and the town offers dining and shopping options, along with a marina.

Kootenai lies approximately 3.5 - 4.0 miles northeast of Sandpoint. It is located on Lake Pend Oreille and offers a limited number of convenience stores and dining options. Sandpoint, however, is only a few miles away and offers a wide variety of dining and shopping opportunities.

Located eight miles east of Sandpoint, the Idaho Club Golf Resort is an 18-hole course. All vacation rentals, including homes and condos, in this category are located on the greens or fairways and vary in distance from the clubhouse.

The Pend Oreille River drains out of Lake Pend Oreille on the west side. The river then flows across the Idaho Panhandle and Washington's northeastern corner and then drains into the Columbia River just past the Canadian border.
